Welcome to my portfolio! This website offers a concise overview of my past experiences, showcasing my journey, skills, and accomplishments. Dive in to discover the professional and academic milestones that have shaped my expertise, and explore how my unique background brings value to various projects.
Master thesis
In my master's thesis, I'm diving into audio processing using deep learning. Nowadays, people often face hearing issues quicker, thanks to loud earphones, headsets, or just longer lifespans. Hearing aids enhance sound quality by using sound localization. Deep learning optimizes this for different indoor settings. My role in improving these methods focuses on making the model smaller without sacrificing accuracy. This involves techniques like knowledge distillation, quantization and dimension reductions.
Internship Volvo Cars
As computer vision advanced rapidly, Volvo Ghent aimed to modernize its welding factory. Previously, glue placement on car parts was either unchecked or manually verified on computer screens. To boost safety, quality, and streamline resource use, computer vision emerged as a solution. During my internship, I delved into this by assessing data with the guidance of a data engineer. We established a pipeline to preprocess the data and implement a machine learning model.
Bachelor project
Warehouses are crucial in the industry. Our team of five engineering students designed an automated moving warehouse for electric generators. These generators are stored temporarily until sold to a second-hand user. Sustainability was a key factor in our project. The inception, design, safety measures, and motor selection were collaborative efforts. My study partner and I managed the electric and automation aspects, meticulously planning all elements with Eplan. For automation, we crafted a PLC simulation using structured text in Automation Studio.
Computer vision project
The MSK is an art museum in Ghent with painting galleries. The goal of this project was to make it possible to track the live visitor's location with its first-person camera view on the paintings. With this information, guided tours could be personalized and automated. We as a team divided the project into pieces. A first task was to detect and locate paintings on the wall. The second task was to recognize the painting from a given dataset. Finally, the painting probability was used in a connectivity matrix to locate the room.
Motor misalignment classification
For applied machine learning, we had to think of a solution to classify motor axis misalignment from given voltage and accelerator data. In this project, data preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, fine-tuning, and evaluation were done.
Security camera
For a surveillance camera system, Raspberry Pi's were used as a server and controller. The controller used a directly mounted camera and an IP camera. The controller sends video content when certain movements are detected to the server. Thereafter, the server saved the videos in a database. All the components work on a local private network.
PLC conveyor
Automation in the industry not only enhances safety but also offers a more efficient alternative to manual processes. As part of the PLC course, we developed a simulation for a bottle-filling installation. This simulation is poised for implementation on a PLC as soon as the necessary components become available.
Dobot
In the course of servo systems and robotics, code was used to draw lines in certain patterns. First, making code from the ground up and later using implemented libraries to control the robot. In order to calculate the shortest path to take, Dijkstra's algorithm was used.
Weather forecast
A LabVIEW weather forecast application was crafted specifically for drone enthusiasts. This tool provides real-time data on critical weather conditions, including wind speed and temperature, ensuring drone flights are both safe and well-informed.
